I find the praise for Joe Biden’s “great sacrifice” in stepping aside rings hollow for me. He originally ran as a transitional president who would serve one term, aware that his age was a limiting factor with regard to a second term. But then…..he waited too long, folks around him (family? advisors?) must have catered to his ego and remained silent in the face of his cognitive and physical decline, leading to a debate performance many commentators labeled the worst ever. Finally, he was cajoled out of the race at a late date, which served no end save his ego. I do not see anything heroic about male hubris placing a female candidate in a near impossible position, as headlines discuss how Harris “lost” this race.
